In
1989, the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) moved
its national headquarters to Daytona Beach, Fla., which is
located at LPGA International, a premier residential
community.
Established in 1950, the LPGA is the oldest,
longest-running women’s sports association in the world. A
non-profit organization involved in every facet of golf, the
LPGA’s membership includes touring, teaching and club
professionals. Featuring the world’s best professional
women golfers, the LPGA Tour in 2001 features 41 events and
total prize money in excess of $41 million, with players
competing for more money per tournament than ever before.
Through its tournaments, the LPGA has generated more than
$119 million for charities since 1981. The LPGA’s Teaching
and Club Professional (T&CP) Division boasts the largest
membership of women golf professionals in the country. With
more than 1,100 members, the LPGA T&CP Division is
dedicated to the advancement of golf through teaching,
managing golf facilities and coaching rising stars. The LPGA
is also committed to advancing women, youth and the sport of
golf through expanding the programs of the LPGA T&CP
Division and The LPGA Foundation, as well as increasing
contributions of the organization and its tournaments to
charity.
LPGA International, a public access, daily-fee facility,
is the home course of the LPGA and is located near the
organization’s headquarters. LPGA International features
two championship, 18-hole golf courses, the Rees
Jones-designed Champions course and the Arthur
Hills-designed Legends course.
Since its opening in 1994, the Champions course has been
selected for many awards, such as GOLF Magazine's "Top
Ten You Can Play" public access courses and GOLF FOR
WOMEN Magazine’s "America’s Most Women Friendly
Golf Course." It hosts the LPGA Tour Final Qualifying
Tournament each fall. The Legends course, which opened in
1998, hosted the 2000 Arch Wireless Championship, the LPGA
Tour’s season-ending event for the top 30 money winners. A
new clubhouse will open in early 2001.
LPGA International is a collaboration of the City of
Daytona Beach, Consolidated-Tomoka Land Co., the State of
Florida and the LPGA. At build-out, the community will
consist of more than 4,500 new homes. The property’s
residential developer is Renar Fine Homes.
