July Eggs & Issues to Feature Continuing Discussion on Homelessness

Wed, Jul 03, 2019 at 8:35AM

Homeless individuals are not as visible since the panhandling and trespass ordinances were approved in Daytona Beach, but there is still a need for assistance. Panhandlers have since turned up in Ormond Beach, Port Orange, and elsewhere.

With less funding from the Florida Department of Children & Families, it’s becoming difficult to stretch our current allocations.

In addition, the First Step Shelter plans to open in October but several issues must still be addressed…

  • Who will be allowed to stay at the shelter...those from participating cities or elsewhere?
  • With a scarcity of funds, how many will be allowed at the shelter?
  • How long are they allowed to stay? Where do they go afterwards?
  • What is the status of donations from the private sector?

Price is $15 for Chamber members, $20 day of event, and $30 for non-members. For program questions, please contact Jim Cameron, Sr. VP government relations, at 386.523.3673.  Eggs & Issues is sponsored by UCF Daytona Beach and The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
